In this chapter we analyze the performance of data link protocols. We consider Stop and Wait ARQ and Sliding Window protocol. In Sliding window protocol, we consider Selective Reject ARQ and Go-Back-N ARQ. There are existing results that analyze the link utilization of these protocols in the presence of error. We have experimented in a somewhat more generalized framework. We have also analyzed and experimented with the number of duplicate error-free packets that will be transmitted.

Watermarking is used in several areas such as CDNs (Content Delivery Networks), as part of the rights management system for counterfeit prevention. Watermarking schemes need some additional features in order to be used in digital cinema. In fact, extra watermarks are added to movies by cinema projectors in projection time, which help identify the cinema hall in which the illegal copy has been recorded. But distortions caused by hand vibrations and the point of view angle make it difficult to recover the watermark. This makes it necessary to be distortion-resistant for the watermarking schemes used in digital cinema. On the other hand, theatre owners would like to locate the camcorder that has recorded the pirate copy. This requires watermarking schemes to be able to estimate the distance and angle using the distributed pirate copy. In this chapter, we present a review on watermarking techniques specifically designed to attack the aforementioned problems.

Lightweight cryptography (LWC) is an area of cryptographic techniques with low computational complexity and resource requirements. There must be a reason for using it in Internet of Things (IoT) network with a strict resource constraints environment. The key features of a 5G network are low latency, high throughput, heterogeneous network architecture, and massive connectivity. A new area of network architecture called SDN-IoT comes into the picture to control and manage IoT devices in a network with low latency and high throughput. SDN helps to reprogram the network according to the application’s requirements. Also, higher mobile applications lead to higher data growth. SDN helps to secure, manage, and control the huge data in the network. SDN-IoT architecture divides the network into three layers: The infrastructure layer, the control layer, and the service or application layer. In this chapter, we are focusing on the LWC algorithms from different perspectives so that they will fit into different layers of SDN-IoT network. We will discuss all the pros and cons of implementing LWC algorithms in hardware and software environments and also, the different layers of the SDN-IoT network. We also discuss SDN security architecture and different performance metrics for LWC algorithms.

In this chapter, we have studied three word-oriented stream ciphers SNOW 1.0, SNOW 2.0 and SNOW 3G in a detailed way. The detailed description includes the working principles of each cipher, security vulnerabilities and implementation issues. It also helps us to study the challenges in each cipher. As SNOW 3G is used as a confidentiality and integrity component in 3G, 4G and 5G communications, the after study of this article may instigate the reader to find the fixes from different cryptanalysis and also find a new suitable design in Mobile telephony security.
