Yannis Karamanos, born in Greece in 1953, completed his undergraduate studies at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, France, before obtaining a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the Université de Lille, France (1983). He was an Associate Professor at the University of Limoges, France (1987) before becoming a Full Professor of Biochemistry at the Université d’Artois, France (1996). He worked on the structure-function relationships of glycoconjugates, and his main project was the investigation of the biological roles of de-N-glycosylation enzymes (Endo-N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase and peptide-N4-(N-acetyl-β-glucosaminyl) asparagine amidase). He has contributed to the understanding of the blood-brain barrier functioning using proteomics approaches since 2002. He has published more than 70 papers. His teaching areas are energy metabolism and regulation, integration and organ specialization, and metabolic adaptation.
